Day -1 Pre-tour San Fran

Meeting at the hotel at 3pm, we commence our tour of San Francisco taking in the Golden Gate Bridge and Muir Redwoods before heading north to the beautiful seaside village of Sausalito. This brings the group together before an evening meal and then journey home by Ferry to San Francisco.(D)

Day 1/Friday August 11, 2017- San Francisco
Meeting early at the Hotel Zephyr in Fisherman’s Wharf*, we get straight into touring some of the scientific highlights of San Fran with a tour to the Lick Observatory. This observatory housed the biggest refracting telescope in the world for a few years. This telescope endowed by the streetcar magnate James Lick and hides a few secrets. On the way to this mountain range we will visit the redwoods of Oakland, and dine in the swanky suburb of Sausalito for dinner. Finishing the day we catch the ferry back to Pier 39. (B)

Day 2/Saturday August 12, 2017 – Monterey, Big Sur
We head south on a visually spectacular coast drive today. Monterey, a city on California’s rugged central coast, immortalized by novelist John Steinbeck is our first stop. Cannery Row, a one-time center of the sardine-packing industry is now a popular strip of gift shops, seafood restaurants and a perfect spot for lunch. Continuing on we reach one of the most recognised scenic drives in the world: 17 Mile Drive, before reaching Carmel By the Sea and Big Sur, bordered to the east by the Santa Lucia Mountains and the west by the Pacific Ocean. Day 3/Sunday August 13, 2017 – Santa Barbara
Anyone up for a Californian Chardonnay? Santa Barbara is our destination today, but along the way, we’ll sample some of California’s best in Santa Ynez Wine Country at Firestone Winery. The Valley, formed by the Purisima Hills and San Rafael Mountains to the north and the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south, contains the greatest concentration of wineries in Santa Barbara County. We check-in to Hotel Corque for the night and dinner located a short walk from the hotel. (B/-/D)

Day 4/Monday August 14, 2017- West Hollywood
Leaving the coast behind, we start to explore the heavens with a visit to three of the most prestigious space and astronomy destinations around LA, but before we do, we take in the Getty Villa. Leaving this roman villa behind, we head to space with a visit to the Californian Science Centre, the Boeing Factory and SpaceX!  We can't guarantee a visit from Elon Musk - but we can walk in his footsteps for a short time! This very full day sees us check in late to Hotel Grafton West Hollywood for 2 nights. After your own dinner arrangements tonight. (B/-/-)

Day 5/Tuesday August 15 -
We head north-east this morning, first taking in Mount Wilson Observatory and the Jet Propulsion Lab. Both well-known destination for the science and technological advancements they have made to space research over the years. We finish with an evening stop at "La La Lands - Griffith Observatory before returning back to our beds at Hotel Grafton. (B/-/-)

Day 6/Wednesday August 16, 2017 – Yellowstone
Departing early from the hotel this morning, we head to the airport for a flight to Jackson Hole operated by United Airlines *included. Our flight path takes us north east over California to West Yellowstone National Park where we are met by our local guides for a transfer to this famous American National Park. Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872 & located primarily in Wyoming, was America's first national park. To this day, Yellowstone remains one of the country's most popular national parks with almost four million annual visitors. Yellowstone spans almost 3,500 miles, and extends into parts of Montana and Idaho, making it the largest National Park in the US. Overnight Old Faithful Inn or similar (B/-/D)

Day 7/ Thursday August 17, 2017 - Yellowstone Private Safari
With our guides from Jackson Hole Safaris, we see Yellowstone NP by Private Safari. Yellowstone National Park sits on top of a dormant volcano and is home to more geysers and hot springs than any other place on earth. Approximately 50 percent of the world’s hydrothermal features are at Yellowstone National Park. The most famous of all the geysers is Old Faithful, one of the most popular and recognized natural wonders in the United States. Overnight Old Faithful Inn or similar. (-/L/-)

Day 8 / Friday August 18, 2017 - Yellowstone to Jackson Hole
We are collected this morning once more from our hotel for a Full Day Yellowstone Safari before transferring to Rusty Parrot. This day will focus on the Canyon, Hayden Valley, Mud Volcano, Fishing Bridge and West Thumb Geyser Basin. After exploring these areas of Yellowstone (with a waterfall or two thrown in for good measure) we will head south to Jackson Hole and arrive at the Rusty Parrot, where we overnight for four nights. This centrally located hotel, allows you to explore Jackson Hole Village in your spare time. Rusty Parrot (-/L/D)

Day 9 / Saturday August 19, 2017 – Jackson Hole to Teton Full Day
Wakey wakey! This full day early morning tour of Grand Teton Safari is packed with wildlife viewing and sight-seeing. We take lunch at the rustic Jenny Lake Lodge (or similar) and a boat ride across this stunning Lake encircled by towering pines, three glacial lakes, and the rugged Teton spires. For those wanting to stretch their legs, there is a short hike to Hidden Falls, but keep your eyes open for bears. (B/L/-)

Day 10 / Sunday August 20, 2017 - Jackson Hole to Teton Half Day
Sleep in this morning before we spend time exploring more of Grand Teton including artistic sites, lesser visited parts of the park and high points by gondola ride. Culminating in a dinner cruise from Colter Bay with a western style dinner on Elk Island on Jackson Lake. Evening wildlife viewing on the way home will make for a later return to Jackson. (B/-/D)

Day 11 / Monday August 21, 2017 – Eclipse Day
Solar Eclipse Day! This day we start early with a wildlife safari and then set-up in a fabulous location within Grand Teton National Park to experience the eclipse. We have a field lunch and time to take in the environs and watch the eclipse. Return to Jackson mid-late afternoon with time to look over your photographs before heading out to dinner in a local restaurant. (B/-/D)

Day 12 / Monday August 22, 2017 – home
Transfer to airport after breakfast for your ongoing flights.
