20 February 2017 – Uppsala

Welcome to your Aurora Borealis tour. We commence our tour in the beautiful harbour town of Stockholm seeing the Ericsson Globe – representing the Sun in the Sweden Solar System, the world’s largest scale model of the Solar System – en route to our visit to the Vasa – the ill-fated seventeenth-century warship. The city tour includes the Nobel Museum and free time to shop in the Gamla Stan. After a full afternoon in Stockholm we head to Uppsala, via the Viking town of Sigtuna, for two nights accommodation and a welcome dinner. (D)

21 February 2017 – Uppsala

This morning we venture through the university town of Uppsala, starting at the delightful university Library. Featuring several astronomical books of significance including Copernica. After lunch we head to the charming little observatory in the woods, Kvistaberg, for a tour with one of Fred’s colleagues. Not far from the observatory is the intriguing palace of Tycho Brahe’s family, Skolkloster Castle. Time permitting, we finish with some time in the ancient Viking Capital of Sigtuna. (B)

22 February 2017 – Ice Hotel, Jukkasjärvi

Breakfast in the hotel, before a group departure for our Scandinavian Airlines flight (*included) to Kiruna. As we head to 68° north, we enter the Arctic Circle, and our Arctic Adventure truly begins! Arriving into Kiruna, we are transferred to the LKAB Mine tour, and then back to the Ice hotel (warm rooms) for dinner. After dinner we can walk to the riverbank in search of the aurora borealis. 23 February 2017 – Abisko

The Sami Museum, just a short walk from the Ice hotel, opens your eyes to the Laplanders history and culture. Contrasting this history is our visit to the Swedish Space Institute where they study the solar activity associated with the Aurora Borealis. We lunch here, then board the Ore Train to Abisko National Park. Enjoy the dark skies and keep your eyes peeled for the ‘Tricky Lady.’ (B,L,D)

Ever imagined yourself on the back of a dog sled? Now is your opportunity! Or perhaps try some snowshoeing through the arctic wilderness. Both are delightful in the glistening winterscape^.
